PowerPhotos 3.1 now available, with updates for macOS 26 Tahoe
I put out an update today for PowerPhotos, bringing it up to version 3.1. The main set of changes is aimed at supporting the new “Liquid Glass” interface Apple is introducing in macOS 26 Tahoe. You may notice that the app icon has been updated to support the various new icon modes, such as dark mode, clear, and tinted. The user interface has also been updated to Liquid Glass, so you’ll see updated appearances for the sidebar, toolbar items, and other interface elements.
There was no significant functionality that needed fixing for Tahoe, but this release contains a number of other miscellaneous bug fixes that will benefit all users (you can read the detailed release notes here). The minimum system requirement is still the same (macOS Sonoma or later) so all current users of PowerPhotos 3 can update to the new version.
If you have not upgraded to PowerPhotos 3 yet, and are still running PowerPhotos 2, that version will continue to work fine on Tahoe, it will just still feature the older icon and interface design when running on Tahoe or later.
If you are still running PowerPhotos 1, PowerPhotos 1 will no longer work on macOS Tahoe, and in fact will crash on launch. PowerPhotos 1 will not be updated to support Tahoe, so if you want to upgrade to Tahoe and continue using PowerPhotos, you will need to upgrade to PowerPhotos 3 going forward.
Download and installation
You can download the PowerPhotos 3.1 to your Mac running macOS Sonoma (14.0) or later. You’ll want to then move PowerPhotos from your Downloads folder to your Applications folder (PowerPhotos will offer to do this for you the first time you quit the app).
Licensing/upgrading
PowerPhotos 3.1 will be a paid upgrade for users with a PowerPhotos 1 or 2 licenes, or an iPhoto Library Manager license. You can enter your license key when ordering at our web store to receive 50% off your purchase. If you can’t find your license key, you can look it up at our lost license page.
Also note that if you purchased PowerPhotos 2 on or after October 8th, 2024 (when the PowerPhotos 3 public beta first started) that license will automatically be usable with PowerPhotos 3.1 without any additional purchase required.
