About updates and upgrades

When a new version of one of our existing programs is released, it will fall into one of two categories: free updates, and paid upgrades. The vast majority of new versions will be a free update, meaning that if you have already purchased a license for that product, you can simply download the new version and replace your old version, and it will continue to work just as it always has.

A new release will only be a paid upgrade if it includes major new features that require significant development time. This will usually be signified by a change in the major version number for the product. For example, an update from version 3.2 to 3.3 of a product will be free, but an update from 3.x to 4.0 may require purchasing an upgrade license. There is no preset timeline for when either free or paid updates are released.

iPhoto Library Manager

iPhoto Library Manager 1.0 was first released back in 2002 as a freeware product, and continued to be completely free up until version 3.0 was released in 2005. Version 3 included major new features such as being able to copy photos between libraries and requires buying a license to gain access to these features. However, everything that could be done for free with versions 1 & 2 can still be done for free with the current version.

All new versions since version 3.0 have been free udpates, so anyone who has a version 3.x license can update to the latest version without any additional purchase.

PowerTunes and PlistEdit Pro

All existing updates for PowerTunes and PlistEdit Pro have also been free updates, so anyone who owns a license for either of these programs can update to the latest version for free.
