Sharing a music folder
If you want to share a common set of music among multiple users, but still allow each user to maintain their own library with separate playlists, ratings, etc., you can use PowerTunes to do so. To share a music folder, first select a library that is using the music folder that you'd like to share, then select "Share Music Folder" from the Library menu. You will be presented the same options as when sharing a library, but these options will only be applied to the music folder, and the selected library will remain unshared.
Once you have shared a music folder, there are two ways for another user to use that music folder with one of their iTunes libraries.
- If you are creating a new library that you plan to use with the shared music folder, the shared music folder will appear in the sheet presented to configure the new library and its music folder. Simply choose the music folder from the pop-up menu listing all the available shared music folders.
- If you have an existing library that you'd like to have use the shared music folder, use the "Switch Music Folder" command in the Library menu. When selecting a folder to switch to, the shared music folder will be included in the pop-up menu at the bottom of the file chooser window.
