[...] Whether you have a good reason for wanting to maintain more than one iPhoto library or your collection simply became un-browsable long ago, Brian Webster’s iPhoto Library Manager is your answer. This slick little utility was mentioned briefly in an Ask TUAW back in May, but to summarize: iPhoto Library Manager makes it painfully simple to create multiple iPhoto libraries, keep them anywhere you want, automate them with AppleScript and Automator, switch between them with a single click and even set one library as the default. But it doesn’t stop there - the features I’ve already listed are available in a free version, but registered users get to enjoy the ability to create library shortcuts for opening straight from the Finder, copying photos (and preserving all their metadata) between libraries, merging libraries and copying photos from multiple libraries into a folder for synching with an iPod. To top all this off, the new v3.3 brings iPhoto ‘08 compatibility and some other goodies. [...]

Brian, you're right but your choice will go down like Betamax (or soon to be Blu-Ray). Apple could have called it iPhoto '07 seeing as we still have a good five months of it remaining. But, they didn't and since they make the stuff and market it, their branding will stick. So, unless you want some of your terms to be out of steps until you give in, I'd change over now...

Sadly, that means Apple won't be enhancing iPhoto till at least 2009, like putting in that Carousel mode of viewing albums, or better yet, paying you a royalty to incorporate your multi-library scheme into the next version. Maybe they will sneak a real iPhoto 8 in '08...!!!!

good work!

i am also holding off waiting for your update!

also i am going through a very tedious operation reducing the size of my 55GB 60,000 iPhoto library
by moving older years pict out and into smaller older libraries..

this is truly a in-dispensible tool

Awesome Brian! I've been holding off on doing any consolidation work in iPhoto '08 because I was waiting for your update. Thank you very much!

On the terminology issue, I am willing to bet just about anything that everyone will be calling it iPhoto '08. As a matter of fact, I just looked out my window and I see a bunch of people gathering on the street after reading your post. Yep, that's it, I better go and get my riot gear...
