iPhoto Library Manager 3.2.5 released

Version 3.2.5 of iPhoto Library Manager was released today. The biggest change was the addition of a new option to help with keeping track of duplicates when copying albums or merging libraries.
There has been an option for a while to skip importing duplicate photos, so you don’t end up with multiple copies of the same photo. The downside to this was that if you copied an album over to another library, but some of those photos were already in that library, then only the photos that were newly imported (i.e. the non-duplicates) would get added to the album after the copy was complete.
In 3.2.5, there is a new setting in the preferences window that will tell iPLM to add the existing copy of any duplicate photo to albums that get copied over. So now, whenever you copy an album, all the photos from the original album will be added to the copied album, regardless of whether they were duplicates that already existed in the new library or non-duplicates that were just imported while doing the copy.

I just purchased vesion 3.2.4 in January 2007. Am I required to purchase version 3.2.5 if I want to use all the features, or will I automatically get access to all features?
It sounds like iPhoto Library Manager will handle this but I thought I’d ask before I pay for the download.
I have photos scattered across 5-10 folders (I am a recent switcher and these folders are remnants of my XP days). I believe that 1 primary folder has all of my pictures and the remaining folders are just various backups and folders I created as temporary holding spots before transferring to the primary folder. BUT, I am not sure. AND, I would hate to just delete the extra folders and possibly lose a picture that is worth saving.
As of yet I have not imported any photos into iPhoto.
If I buy iPhoto manager, can I chose to import all folders into iPhoto and have the manager identify duplicates and not import those photos? (And then safely delete all the old folders.)
Thomas: Version 3.2.5 is a free update for anyone who purchased iPLM 3.0 or later, so you can just download it and install it over the old 3.2.4 version on your machine.
Ian: Probably the best way to start out in order to weed out your duplicates will be just to import all your various folders directly into iPhoto, which will detect any duplicates at the time you import them. Once you get everything consolidated into one library with no duplicates, if you want to then to split stuff up into separate, smaller libraries, you can use iPhoto Library Manager to create the new libraries and copy photos to them as necessary.
Hi Brian,
I wasted a lot of time today trying to move a bunch of albums to a new firewire drive. While reading the Missing Manual iPhoto4 book, I ran across your app and a light went on. So I tried out the demo, it worked and made perfect sense so I sent the $20. Such a deal!!!
I am in the process of scanning 5000 35mm slides that I needed to archive for years but didn’t have the tools. Your iPhoto Manager gives me much more control and is going to make it a lot more fun! Thank you!!
Hi, Brian,
My question is similar to an earlier one in the thread, except I bought Version 3.2. Is the upgrade to version 3.2.5 one I have to pay for, or a free update? Love the program!
Ed
Oops — sorry I didn’t read the earlier reply clearly before leaving my question.
Feel free to delete it. I see that I am entitled to the update, and I am very glad. Looks like a lot of great improvements from reading the Release Notes. Thanks,
Ed
i love the Library Manager… Anyway you can do the same for iTunes???
Please!!!
Thanks for this work… good luck
